Coffee People Zine
CPZ has been a home for my two greatest passions in life for many years; coffee and art. Having contributed to five or so of the now 24 issues, I was approached by the editor Kat Melheim in the summer of 2024 to design the cover for the upcomung issue of the zine. Following the theme “past,” and preceding the “future” themed edition was the “present” issue. My final design was an ode to the novelty of the first sip of coffee. For me, coffee has been a community that emnbraces the power of simple joys. I wanted to reflect the inherent nature coffee has of making its consumer stop to smell,

Estes handmade pasta and pasta sauce
For Estes pasta, representing the Italian roots of chef Patrick Mckee are esssential to the brand, as well as simplicity and quality. In reference to vintage Italian label design for pakcaged tomato goods, I used sketch line drawings and bright red colors to highlight the simple quality of good ingredients.
Malpractice Cocktail Pop-Up
Maplractice has been a successful and sell-out pop-up event around East Portland for three-ish years now. Come this winter, it will be established as a brick and mortar bar in the SE Industrial Disrict. For the last two years, I have had the pleasure of working with the owner Rick on carrying out branding and marketing posters for his events. Given the nature of pop-ups, each event relies heavily on social media and local publications for getting the word out there. Designing posters for these events meant creating unique, yet on brand images that associate both with the Malpractice brand, and with the business hosting the event. For Negroni Week 2024, after gaining recognition for the 2023 event, Maplractice was asked to host the Kickoff event with Campari, the key name behind the classic Negroni. The design in this case was directly inspired by vintage Campari posters, with a small animated twist.
For the Collector Bar pop-up, I experimented with traditional printmaking methods to emulate the small yet intimate space Collector offers. As a spring event, I wanted to incorporate a symbolic use of lighting and the bright hues associated with the season’s palette. If you’ve ever visited the speakeasy below Loyal Legion, you’ve seen the red light that engulfs the front room of the bar. Posters for these events were meant to emulate the prohibition era, red-light ambiance and mood that Malpractice shares with Voysey.
For the final Malpracice pop-up held at Too Soon on SE 28th, I illustrated an 8 page menu to accurately translate the personality of each cocktail recipe. Having sampled each drink and spoken to Rick about his intention behind these drinks, there was a delicate balance between tongue and cheek humor and sophistication. Below are my favorite of the drinks represented.
Push X Pull Diner Mug
Afer having worked at Push X Pull for a couple years while building my freelance portfolio, I was given the opportunity to design a PxP diner mug. Working with our company’s current brand designer, I was able to finsih two designs, one with greater detail for future merchandising, and another more simplified version for print. The design is meant to emulate the flourishing plants that bring life into the cafe. As a personal favorite feature of the cafe, it was symbolic to me of the diversity of community and light-filled space Push X Pull houses. The result is a play on the PxP logo, illuminated by silhouette of the shop’s plants.
